Helpful tips from the masters of rabbitfish,

Selecting the Spot

Some hints to find rabbitfish (rf)hot spots

1. Pier : rf are like to play hide and seek around the pier piles

2. Green abalone fishery : one of rf favourite meals

3. Around the reef or wave breaker ; particularly ones invested by green hair algae
4. Shipwrecks

Water condition

Rf prefer slightly silted or clouded water but not but not dirty / murky water , they tend to hide between rocky gaps

Bait
There're plenty theory of rf baits, some prefer to use green hairy algae, steamed rice or glutenous rice, while other prefer on fried vegetable omellet or stuffed rice cakes.

All baits can be used, since rf tend to be frenzy eater and won't refuse any type of baits. While prior to determine most effective baits we have firstly consider and explore the spot.

At the wave breaker, its commonly better to use the green hairy algase ... since the wave breaker are commonly invested with the algae thus its rf's natural meals.

For at the pier, it would be better to use white bread, steamed rice of stuffed rice cake, or fried veggie cake .. since there're always sailors throw away their excessive foods near the pier .. thus rice or white bread will be more effective than algae

For around green abalone fishery, of course it would be better to use the green abalone flesh .. since the rf will prefer to feed on green abalone flesh

Require tools
  1. Long Pole : commonly 4,5 - 6m
  2. Floaters : there some shapes, (UFO, triangle, ball, urn, etc) you can pick as you like
  3. Lines ( 8 - 12 lbs )
  4. Multi hooked (big or small ones : refer to your preference)
Hopefully this can help you to cath the rf, if you need further info, please don't hesitate to call :
