what a remarkable result, but I heard johan was in peltu for a few sortie before he hit the "bulseye"... so how's the probability for us to hit the tuna kebo these days in peltu......some of our colleagues also went to peltu last week but unsuccessfull... is there by any chance Johan could share his popping technic, cause some reference said the tuna is a little bit too picky when it comes to artificial lure...

Match the lure used to the baitfish those tunas are feeding .

Thursday May5th: Anglers Johan, John and Yong. YFT didn't show up, tried popping for GT. Caught 2GTs (8-12kgs) and 2Bluefins (2kgs, 1 was released).

Friday May6th: Anglers Johan, John, Yong, Indra, Greg. Even worse than yesterday. Only 1 very small YFT (3kg) caught among school of cakalang.

Saturday May 7th: The schedule was to attend a married friend there. Checked out from hotel at 9am and went to TPI to get some things from my boat. Then I saw a Japanese angler with his big YFT weighed 61kg. Spoke with him, he fought the Tuna for 45 mins with Stella 20000 filled with PE10, i forgot what kind of rod he use, but as big as carpenter UFT. When i test pulled the drag was set at about 20kg. (wow..)
Then I decided to extend the fishing trip although all friends left already.
Back from the wed ceremony, I directly went to the sea.
    No YFT seen until 6pm.
Back to the hotel and called some friends about the Jap's 61kg Tuna.
John, Iwan and Yong planned to come, but only Yong showed up.

Sunday May8th: Iwan SMS that his car's radiator was blown up in Jagorawi tol. John cant come too.
We go out 6am. Just 10 miles out, we had what i thought to be a major problem with the starboard engine. We smelt smokes and opened the engine room door only to find oil everywhere. We decided to go back to TPI and I thought that was the end of fishing that day.
Spent 3-4 hours to fixed the engine and started the engine with success.
We decided to continue with the fishing.

Sunday 1pm: We spotted school of YFT just 5 miles out from TPI. Capt Wewen said it was a school of big ones. Yong and I had 2 chances to cast red and white poppers. I had a strike but didnt have a good hook up.
After couple of minutes of waiting, the school showed up again.
This time i have a good hook up on the 1st cast with Carpenter TN87. It took 20 minutes before the fish was surfaced. We had 3 succesfull chances of gaffing the big fish, but every time the gaff was bent straight !! The worst was on the last try, somehow, the leader was tangled on the fish's tail. Hurt, the fish took my line with speed. 10colours of PE5 was out from Saltiga4500 in just seconds. Then I gave up, exhausted.... It took 3 people maybe 3 times each to pull back the fish to the surface. This time we already prepared a flying gaff, but, still it didnt work. Then a local ABK jumped to the water carrying the flying gaff and set it to the fish. The fish was almost dead fighting for about an hour. What a fight... It fought till it's almost dead!!
Yong broght his wife n baby, so we decided to end the fishing at 3pm.

We guessed it should be more than 50kgs but actual weighed was 42,5kg.
Still far from 61kg the Japs caught, but still, it was my biggest yet.
According to the local charter boat captain Wewen, Tuna Kebo (what they call for big YFTs), usually last for 2weeks. So, anyone want to try, now is the best chance.
One advice from me, use PE8 and above and much stiffer rods than Carpenter TN87 and a strong gaff. They will help you a lot. Goodluck!!
